After spending the last month or so chasing the porosity issue with no luck, I finally decided it's miller time.

Millermatic 211

Basically the same machine as the HF Vulcan I have but at least now I can get any replacement parts.

Best solution I’ve seen for porosity yet

Ran a few beads and grinded on the same material I've been working with. Perfection. I think it must have been the diffuser on the HF gun. I could have bought a new gun, but I've been wanting this machine for a while.

It's definitely nicer, but idk about $1k nicer. Some stuff actually feels cheaper, like the grounding clamp. At least now I don't have to feel embarrassed when customers enter the shop and see a HF machine

Take a little to get use too.. I always find ground clamps are cheap as and the cable diameter too small and it all just ends up burning at the clamp. Personally I’d get a new upgraded one ASAP

Yeah. The Miller looks like it's 8awg and the harbor freight looks to be like 4awg. The HF might be copper clad and I'd hope the Miller is copper. I have an awesome clamp on the HF machine, but it's old so I'll likely just order a new one.

We use the hell out of the 211 we have for duct work and abuse the hell out of it. It welds awesome, welds nice on SS too. Hook it up to 220v and use it all day. I still think your liner was wore out or contaminated on your old welder.

Might have been. Reason I didn't change the liner is because I had changed it like 6 months ago. Then 4 months into a new liner, no issues one weekend, then issues the next.

A little bummed the Miller spool gun is $500. The one that went with my HF was only $170 and I didn't think to check the price before grabbing the 211. Oh well, I'm sure it's much better anyhow.

Liners don’t go by time period, I’ve had liners at work last months then others fuck out 1 month in..

Yea, the spool gun is pricey. When I bought my 215 I should have gotten the spool gun, it was only a $150 add on. They kinda suck to use though, but for light repair or portable repair they are handy.

Kinda disappointed in the Miller. It's been 10 or so years since I've used one and when I got my HF machine, I was very impressed but assumed a newer Miller would be more impressive. The Miller seems more cheaply made and definitely doesn't drive nearly as consistent as the HF machine did. It works, but not how I'd expect from a 1k more machine. Kinda regret selling the HF now.
