Can someone tell me the difference between all of these as far as quality, space, etc.?? What would be better for making home movies to transfer to DVD and VHS?? Thanks! :big grin:

    MiniDV would be the best.

8 Hi8 and digital all are versions of the 8mm tape.
Minidv is a smaller version of the dvc tape which is the professional standard for news. When I worked at a news station we used ONLY dvc tapes. MiniDV is by far the best quality tape out for camcorders these days. They are a bit more spendy then 8mm tapes

Definately Mini-DV and a close second would be Digital-8

Don't even consider any of the other options, they are all analog and poor resolution.

I have a Digital-8 and am fairly happy with it. It plays all my older 8mm tapes which is nice, and the tapes are generally cheaper for it as well.

I can't tell the difference in resolution between it and my friend's Mini-DV.

    Just my .02
