August 3, 2007 MIRA MESA: When two armed men beat her son yesterday, a mother grabbed one assailant's handgun and ordered them out of her house, police said. The two entered the home on Caffey Lane about 5:30 p.m., yelled the name of an Escondido street gang and attacked the woman's 17-year-old son. They beat him and hit him on the head with a handgun, then confronted his mother, San Diego police Sgt. Rich Nemetz said. Nemetz said the mother disarmed one of the attackers. She turned the handgun over to police. The teen did not go to a hospital. The intruders were described as Latino men in their 20s. One was 5 feet 10 inches tall and 180 pounds, with a shaved head. The other was 6 feet tall, 200 pounds, with curly brown hair. Both had tattoos on their necks and wore dark clothes.
