Fucking thing sucks :-(
Was in an "invalid sibling link" error, or did it just plain die?
Lol, short story long - I was working on a video for a client when my Final Cut Pro crashed. It didn't save the last 4 hours of work I had done, so i hit my fists against my macbook on either side of the trackpad. Turns out one was right over the HD. It started ticking and the computer wouldn't do anything. Rebooted, still ticked, and I got a folder with a question mark on it. Good thing I have a backup macbook.
My averatec PC laptop has the same thing... Customer that brought it in did the same thing got pissed and smashed his hands on it.. got pissed and decided to GIVE it away..
this was 3 years ago, it only needed a new HD , well I upgraded he ram from 256 to 1gb as well.
most laptops now, thats where they are located
It's okay, found a 320gb 7200 Seagate Momentus for $80, free shipping.
I knew it was there, just didn't think about it. Movie was promised Monday before lunch. All nighter ftw. I have to take my dad to the airport at 4:30 am anyways. Minus wale just stay up and work on it.
Oh, and is it a tiny Averatec? Like 12" screen? My GF has one, its a POS.
OMG Apple sucks!
If it's clicking try tossing it in the freezer.
Not too long, but long enough to make it cold, make sure to shove it in a freezer bag or something waterproof
only good to get data off though, it will fail again
apparently it's supposed to be for several hours
I had an Averatec that was pretty good, except it had terrible battery life. At least you have SATA, I spent $75 on a 160gb IDE drive a week ago. It was just freezing at random times for 10 seconds then files started getting CRC errors.
yeah 3200 model.
Mine isnt much of a POS other than the processor being WAYYY underpowered for what I want.. so I upgraded to the max it can take in everything except HD space.
Soon as i get some more $$ im going to build up a new notebook for out-of-town stuff since I travel a bit anyway.. I really want a 17" notebook but they are HEAVY and buying the bag to accomodate is the next task.
:jihad: i hijacked, and now back to our regularly scheduled program
Yes, Apple is the OEM manufacturer of Seagate hard drives now...
And it's actually my fault for working out too much and having a temper.
Ouch, that sucks.
I don't know about you but my sarcasm detector exploded when I read his post.
