Neighbors of man who shot suspected thief frustrated with criminals in their area http://www.khou.com/news/local/stories/khou080405_tnt_shootfolo.2fa6372c.html 01:13 PM CDT on Friday, April 4, 2008 By Rucks Russell / 11 News HOUSTON -- Neighbors of a man who shot a suspected burglar at his home were trying to return to routine Friday. But many of them expressed anger and frustration about the crime that led to the shooting, which they say was bound to happen. Thomas Williamson shot the suspected thief in his backyard in the 6000 block of Bois D’Arc in southeast Houston Thursday afternoon. He told 11 News he’d stayed home from work to keep an eye on things because of a rash of burglaries in the area. When he spotted a stranger carrying bolt cutters in his backyard, Williamson grabbed his shotgun and confronted the man. He ordered the suspect to go outside and lie on the ground. “I was holding him on the ground and he decided he didn’t want to stay there no more and he tried to run,” said Williamson. “I shot him twice.” The suspect was struck once in the lower back. He was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive. Police said Williamson will probably not face charges. Williamson told police he was just trying to protect his property, which had already been targeted by burglars twice in the past week. “I think he got what he deserved. He’s lucky he’s alive. He’d ran straight at me, I’d have killed him. I wouldn’t have hesitated for a second ‘cause I’m sick and tired and I’m fed up with people stealing my stuff. I work hard for what I get and I’m just tired of people coming over here and stealing it,” Williamson said. Other neighbors echoed that sentiment, saying they’ve also been victims of crime. In fact, there were 60 burglaries reported in the area in the first two months of this year alone. “It’s a problem in this whole neighborhood over here and everybody around here is fed up with it,” Williamson said. “And these people are getting tired of it with a bunch of thieves around here. I’m gonna be around here protecting my property and anybody who wants to come over here to my house I’m gonna be here waiting for you...and that’s all I gotta say about that.” === Good shoot, too bad he lived.
