Shit like that is why they make hazing such a big deal these days.
If they would just slap the fuckers on, without the backings on, take the pain and be done with it, it would be such a big deal.
Now days you have to make sure there isn't an officer anyway near just to have your rank pinned on the old-fashion way.
Assholes overdo it and ruin it for us younger personell.
what kind of wings are those? they look foreign...or some kind of movie scene.
i saw video of russian paratroopers getting the absolute shit kicked out of them, and getting their wings fucking pounded into their chests.
no US military units i know of do anything like the above. we got our wings put on over our service dress with no backings, and our instructors took turns punching us in the chest, but it didn't break the skin. shit like that (above) is way over the top.
CH-53 Crew Chief wings.
Blood wings and blood rank is part of the fucking military. Leave it be.
my buddy just had his wife do it (non military)
when i got mine, i got it bad. Not as bad as that guy though. I've never seen anything as bad as that navy shit..gettin beat by firehoses.
Those weren't firehoses
i didn't have much of a choice, i got promoted after i was in my current unit. Its pretty much their way or the highway.
maybe it's just an air force thing, but we prefer to celebrate accomplishments by getting shit face drunk, not making each other bleed.
probably is just an air force thing. I tried sayin no to it at first and i pretty much got the shit kicked out of me. so now i just play along
When I get my pin Im sure it will be pinned on "proper" Thats the way I like things though. To bad my ship doesnt do the whole shellback thing anymore.
Negative. Being a shellback and getting wings is a whole different thing. Although getting your wings applies to getting your pilot or aircrew wings in the navy getting your EAWS (Enlisted Aviation Warefare Specialist) is getting wings also. Being a shellback is a whole different story. Shellbacks are guys who cross the equator. Although now its nothing like how it used to be, its just a bunch of stupid pt, salt water being sprayed on you and what not. If you stray from that its considered hazing and is punished severely which is pretty gay. When I crossed I told the shellbacks in my shop to do your worst. I would rather "earn" it than just get it because I did it. Thats pretty weak. So they gave me the nice custom t shirt at 3am that they used for a floormat all night and then soaked in water and threw in the freezer for the rest of the night before they came and got me. It was fun though and im glad I did it. And you don't get beat with firehoses dammit. They are "shelaylies" or however the hell you spell it. All and all its just TRADITION FTW.
you must've missed what i quoted, but thank you for answering my question and explaining what "shellback" is.
A shellback is someone who crosses the equator on a ship, but when they cross the equator they've got these ceremonies or something where they beat the shit out of you, then you become a shellback.
a lil late for a change (this one emem)
edit: u better be happy woman(she knows who she is), i went and edited my post so HA, ibtakeittoPMs
We all got bloody cross rifles at the end of our final FTX.
golden shellback here!
I dont mind the "hazing", but it's the screw ups that take it too far and break someones leg or arm. The Military has some great traditions that have gotten ruined by idiots. Most PO's dont even know what the true meaning of getting your crow tacked on. They think a new crow is a new target to punch on.
When I made 3rd, i had a chief, not an e-7 ,a chief..big difference, tac on my crow,in true Navy tradition. One of the best memories ever.
they don't beat the shit out of you, at least not since the Vietnam days....Wog-
yeah, i'm all for "welcome aboard packages", tackin on crows, blood wings. good for moral. and if a guy says no, so be it. leave 'em the fuck alone. what's the big deal?
