My friend put together a new computer for me:

    Shuttle SN95G5
    AMD Athlon 64+ 3500
    Western Digital 250gig HD
    ATI 9600xt All-In-Wonder
    16X DVD-R Dual Layer
    Wireless Enabled
    Dual LCD monitor setup

Right now I only have 512 OCZ ram, but he says I have dual channel. Should I go 512x2 dual channel? Is it really needed for games?

I'd suggest the dual channel memory. Specially a good solid brand like OCZ, Corsair or something like that. I prefer Corsair myself. Although in my SN45G I'm running 2 dual channel sticks of 3200 Geil memory. Works just fine.

just a clarification, Dual channel is something that the mobo/cpu does not the ram, if you have 2 or 4 (somtimes three) sticks that are the same speed/size/latency then you can dual channel if you have the right mobo(or CPU in Athlon 64's case)

haveing one stick will not dual channel, you need atleast two.

I recomend getting a second(try for identical) stick of ram, a gig is what you want nowadays any mroe is big overkill and any less can gimp stuff IMO
