Clifton Eric Kaho had surgery Wednesday in Natchez after shooting himself in the chest, then was transported to University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. Natchez Police Chief Mike Mullins says Kaho’s heart rate and breathing are stable but that he remains in serious condition. Mullins says the department is investigating the shooting, but that it appears the 29-year-old was cleaning his gun as he prepared to return to work Wednesday after six weeks off. He had been out with a knee injury. The weapon was a department-issued Glock 9mm semiautomatic. Mullins says it appears he had already cleaned the gun and reassembled it when the accident happened.
