It's one thing to show a substance abuser or fat person the statistics of not being an alcoholic or fat

they could always just say, "well drinking takes the pain away" or "eating feels fucking fantastic" and you be just like

Nobody says, "Hell yeah, motherfucker! Being unvaccinated feels great fuck the stats!"
I seriously don’t get them. They are scared as hell to catch it, wear masks everywhere, but won’t get vaccinated.

When the Omicron variant took off in southern Africa in November, scientists were taken aback by its genetic makeup. Whereas earlier variants had differed from the original Wuhan version of the coronavirus by a dozen or two mutations, Omicron had 53 — a shockingly large jump in viral evolution.

In a study posted online last week, an international team of scientists further deepened the mystery. They found that 13 of those mutations were rarely, if ever, found in other coronaviruses, suggesting they should have been harmful to Omicron. Instead, when acting in concert, these mutations appear to be key to some of Omicron’s most essential functions.

sure they do. humans have a very well developed ability to ignore impending death in favor of escapism and beliefs in things that will help them not think about the bad things that might happen. Terror Management Theory comes from a study of this ability in humans.

"in their research, they have found a few predictable but different responses to death reminders: an urge to make yourself feel safe (in the world of the coronavirus, that would look like wearing a mask or washing your hands), complete denial (deciding the virus is part of a conspiracy theory, or reminding yourself that nobody you know is sick or that you are young and healthy) or distraction."
