Good eye. damn that looks amazing.

Dealer notes say:
VINYL WRAPPED IN PAINT TO SAMPLE MOONSTONE METALLIC/LILAC
GT SILVER METALLIC (ORIGINAL EXTERIOR COLOR UNDER THE WRAP)
lol my memory isn't that sharp, Sloan recently shared that car/color on their social media that's why I remembered it

Ok guys. I'd like some thoughts and opinions here. As you guys know I'm saving for a weekend sports car, I mentioned to you guys a couple months ago Cayman GT4RS, 911 GTS, or GT3 are possible outcomes in a couple years. Assuming I can buy new at sticker...that is doable right now locally on a GTS, but not on the GT3/GT4RS.

Anyway, a long time friend is in a wheel chair, so when he goes car shopping I help him. I drive the cars/ride in the cars and give him my thoughts and opinions since he can't drive them on test drives.
Yesterday it was taking a look at a couple of 997 Turbo S's, and a new 911 Turbo.
This experience has me confused. So I want to be as clear as I can. The newer cars, the 991.1, 991.2 and 992 cars are absolutely amazing. They really are, I adore them. No surprise, been hooked on P cars since my first test drive in 1998. These newer cars are refined, fast, sporty, handle amazing, make great power, they are all of the things...except...analog.

When hooning with the 997.2 yesterday I was reminded of that analog experience, the raw nature of the experience. Ride is rougher, it's louder, there's more vibrations, the steering is alive.|

I have always loved the 997 and yesterday brought all that back to me. FRONT AND CENTER.
Since we are talking about a weekend car here, not my DD, and with the GT3/GT4RS seeming more unobtanium then ever, I'm giving some thoughts to possibly picking up a 997 car. Perhaps later this year or early next year.
It would likely be a Turbo or Turbo S if I went with the 997. Is this a mistake to even be thinking about? Am I on an island all by myself thinking the 997 just feels right? If I'm on that island alone, I may just accept it and be alone but man was that car great.

There's some interesting stuff coming from BMW that has my attention but probably still prefer the P car.
Edit: car will likely see some track days and will be driven some to P car events

I've driven 993/996/997/991/992 now

I thought about it long and hard and went with a 997.1 GT3. The steering, small sizer compared to the new cars, noise, feel etc are all very analog and the car ends up being so much more engaging than the newer cars.

The newer cars have better tech, better aero/performance (hell a Civic Type R is faster on track than my car) / are more comfortable etc. They're much more isolated from the road than the 997, there's a distinct move to grand tourer starting with the 991 and you lose a lot of what the 911 was but it appeals to more people, so I understand why they did it.

If you can live with a Cayman, I think both the m 981 GT4 or a 718 with the right options are pretty fun, you get some of the rawness, you get more performance and they end up being really fun cars.

You should try driving a real Porsche too.

997s are sentimental to me. But beyond that they’re the perfect blend of classic and modern styling. They just released new car play infotainment systems for them too
Only the .1s. Most people want the 997.2 cars because they're vastly improved but the infotainment upgrade isn't out for those yet

Yeah but it's not my DD so while I'd make that upgrade if available it wouldn't be a deal breaker.
I would have to swap the seat somehow. I barely have headroom in the 997 with the standard seats. Sport seat(s) might be better for me especially with a helmet on. Just can't get the feel/noise out of my head. Thinking the whole time "this is what my weekend car should be about, the noise, the experience" etc.
