I've driven 993/996/997/991/992 now

I thought about it long and hard and went with a 997.1 GT3. The steering, small sizer compared to the new cars, noise, feel etc are all very analog and the car ends up being so much more engaging than the newer cars.

The newer cars have better tech, better aero/performance (hell a Civic Type R is faster on track than my car) / are more comfortable etc. They're much more isolated from the road than the 997, there's a distinct move to grand tourer starting with the 991 and you lose a lot of what the 911 was but it appeals to more people, so I understand why they did it.

If you can live with a Cayman, I think both the m 981 GT4 or a 718 with the right options are pretty fun, you get some of the rawness, you get more performance and they end up being really fun cars.
Cayman isn't out, but I'd probably have to have a GTS4.0 or a GT4 or something along those lines if going Cayman.

KNOCK KNOCK! LOL!
Personally I believe the 997.2 gt3rs is the best Porsche I have driven, I suspect 4.0 is even better. When I get a bigger garage that is model would get. Never driven 997.2 turbo but if it anything like the gt3rs then you can’t go wrong. In fact if you know you want a 911 almost every iteration is excellent.

Yeah there's no doubt. I was really wanting something NA for the feel/noise. But the Turbo S yesterday sounded great, power delivery was a little lumpy, which you'd expect from a turbo but fucking fast. I guess my point is I haven't ruled out a 997.2 Carrera or Carrera GTS but probs turbo.

Have you considered a Boxster Spyder? I seriously think about buying one frequently. They're fun as fuck top down fun.
I really don't want top down for a car that will see some track time. Also, the last Boxster I was in was many years ago and it was super cramped for my 6'6 frame. I have been in some Cayman's which seemed less cramped but they were also more recent cars.
