i wonder if johnnie morton will be on the show
IN for herschel walker vs marvin eastman
that's an awesome concept and a great way to showcase eliteXC.
if you want mma to be looked at as a freakshow sport
From a business standpoint, it's an excellent idea to make a lot of money including gaining more exposure for EliteXC. We're still waiting for the best MMA fighters to come. Besides training in TMA's as a child, most fighters were anti-sports, which is why these wrestlers with superior genetics, strong knowledge of physiology, and better athleticism have risen to the top of the game.
They're not taking guys like Jude Law or Corey Feldman and turning them into fighters. They're recruiting former athletes who already have a great base for learning MMA. I want to see more athletes from the big 3 of professional sports taking a shot at MMA.
Eventually we'll have a new crop of fighters who instead of going into the NFL, MLB, or NBA they'll decide to use their talents to become MMA fighters instead.
This is hardly some kind of freakshow.
c'mon homie whats your beef with this?
theyre not having the contestants up against real mma fighters.
its athletes that succeeded at their sport, have a background in martial arts and are hopefully going to take their training seriously.
while canseco is a tool, herschel walker is known as one of the hardest working athletes in history. walker could be a great supporter for mma and bring in a new audience.
it will encourage more people to take up the sport as we get to see them develop throughout the show. if this is filmed over a 6-8 week period, just imagine how one athlete could progress his jiu jitsu and striking over that time. thats the one thing missing from tuf, since they come in as trained experience fighters, they dont progess much from week 1 to week 6, the progression doesnt show until the TUF Finale.
i didnt listen
first off Canseco being a lead is not giving anything in the legitimacy department.
second, I just see this as being more like celebrity boxing than an mma reality show. I think most will see it as washed up athletes past their prime fighting eachother for money.
I think a show about real fighters and their real struggles and training would be healthier for the sport.
i already agreed that canseco is a tool and a whore for the dolla.
herschel walker =! todd bridges, tonya harding, and buttafouco(sp?)
its all about how serious these athletes are going to take the training.
however walker and canseco were both very genetically ahead of the general public in regards to pure athleticism, if they can bring in some other athletes that have kept themselves in decent shape this could be very exciting.
mma is still not getting the most genetically gifted athletes in the world.
while they train just as hard if not harder than the athletes of other sports, mma is still not seeing the equivalent of michael jordan, terrell owens, jerry rice, lebron james, mike tyson, kobe, pujols, etc...
and well, if they dont take it serious, at least we get to see diaz and company pound on these fuckers in training.
Baseball players being athletically superior? Baseball is like 70% skill 20% strength 10% conditioning. I don't think baseball is going to translate well into cardio or training habits.
canseco is athletically superior to most... and he has a history in muay thai, so he has some knowledge of what he's doing
in for ed oneal, lol
I have never heard that, when he was on Pros vs Joes he told randy he had done karate.
Anybody who can pull off a 40-40 gets major cred as an athlete.
And I mentioned pujols since he obviously has major power, but also since his reflex reaction speed and motor skills are in the 99th percentile.
he's already said he doesnt like the new rules of the UFC and prefers VT.
in to see conseco get his ass whooped
