how in the hell does that happen?
I wasn't there but apparently theyere was an advance carbine class at a range here in Georgia. It rained real hard for 2 days or so before the class so the range was pretty muddy.
"A sling would NOT have helped that in any way shape or form. I was there for that demonstration. Joe was a little upset at the guys wanting to baby their gear and not get it dirty. Joe removed his rifle and INTENTIONALLY threw it in the mud, picked it up and threw it in the mud a second time. Picked it up yet again and performed a double tap with it. First round flowered the muzzle device second round fired normally, he was going to fire a third and fourth shot and people screamed and hollared whoa whoa whoa so he didnt fire another round.
But I am confident that IF he needed to fire more then there would have been no problems at all in the next shots. "
Wow, what an idiot.
shit looks fake. that's some funny stuff right there
Yeah and the scary part is the dude throwing it in the mud was the instructor teaching the class.
While I'm not a fan of babying shit either, throwing an open muzzle gun into a mud/shit soup is just asking for a failure like that.
I run electrical tape over the end of all my stuff, to keep that kinda shit from happening.
Of tape around the end of a rifle barrel?
Like literally dude, wrap some electrical tape around the end of the barrel. Covers the bore, and keeps shit from getting in causing your gun to go boom.
I'm bored, and evading work:
Tape and go, I usually keep some extra around the barrels for when I shoot through the stuff in place.
so umm....what happens when the barrels get hot?
That's a 22 with a medium contour tube and a 30-30, barrel heating really isn't a huge problem with either.
At worst, it just melts the tape a little bit, and it falls off. I suppose it could fuck up a blued finish, but I don't roll very many blued barrels. I also usually don't tape up range toys either, just stuff that I'm going to drag around places with me.
Heh - not likely to run enough rounds through a 30-30 fast enough to be a real problem...
Nah, it's a beater. Pretty much only used as a loaner, or as a truck gun. 30-30s don't really do anything for me, and neither do lever guns in general.
He got confused, that was an AR, not an AK.
i was thinking the same thing, an AK would've been fine.
Probably fire better then before.
Looks like a muzzle device failure not
hey guise arent i kewl?
mini14 would've been fine too
fairly unsafe. He could of at least shook out the barrel or run a stick in it to scape out some of the mud before firing. Could of easily of of clogged near the chamber and then blew up near the shooters face.
Just because somebody is a "instructor" does not mean they are know wtf they are doing or that they can shoot. Just means they can take your money.
Instead of tape getting it all gummy use.....
I wonder if David does this to his side port ejecting .22 mg42?
I've heard of people rubber-banding on condoms to prevent this sort of thing as well. The lube keep it rust free too
are you serious? that sounds like a good idea, seeing as how i won't be using condoms for anything else any time soon...
but it also sounds like one of those things people say to make people like me look/feel stupid >_>
