If Carmack says "probably not" that means it's absolutely not going to have dedicated servers. Might as well just call it fact now.
"remnant from the early days of gaming"
if it ain't broke don't fix it
Seriously. The ability to have dedicated, organized servers has always been a big plus for online PC games.
I don't understand developers' problems with them. The shit works fine.
The difference is rage is a racing game, not a 30 person shooter where leaving and joining are common place. But yeah, still dumb.
Nevermind, I thought rage was a racing game
WTF EA? Not buying this game.
I don't see the problem
Client hosting is an abhorrent practice.
I dunno though, Valve made L4D and a sequel to it in only a year. Both of those are pretty much console games.
As for people not seeing a problem with this, do you niggahs not notice the glacial pace that both Valve and Blizzard crawl along and release shit at?
I love how all these developers who started out on PC forget their roots so easily once they start making money from consoles... or in Carmack's case, the iPhone
Dont think it will need dedicated servers tbh. From what I've heard it only has co-op play.
It's kind of like people complaining about lack of dedicated servers for borderlands.
They shouldn't forget that without the support of PC gamers in the past, id would not be around today to still do what it does. It's weird that a company that has released the source code of some of it's biggest games won't put dedicated servers into the PC version of the game.
I don't understand how putting dedicated servers into a game they are already releasing on PC will lose them money.
This is like complaining that they don't make movies on VHS anymore, just move on already.
Right, because removing a feature still in many multiplayer PC games today is EXACTLY like an outdated media format being replaced by something which does the same thing VHS does, only better in every way.
Gamer's Pulse Logic Crew is out in full force today.
it's more like saying dvd/bluray is being discontinued and everyone is forced to go back to vhs
Not really, they don't even need to host the servers themselves, just have a server client and let the fans host their own. People will do it.
