I hope Sherk controls him and holds him down for 5 straight rounds.

He'll be Tim Sylvia v2. Impossible to beat and everybody hates to watch.

plenty of people beat sylvia :hsugh:. sherk is also intense as fuck. i still think saying all he does is lay and pray is stupid. his last two fights were against 2 bjj black belts and nick diaz is no slouch on the ground either. he's finished plenty of fights.

I like watching Sherk. He may not finish but he's constantly working. He doesn't LnP. He schooled Frana on the ground and KenFlo. But I'm not the average fan, I like technical battles.

BJ will gas in the 3rd if it gets there. Then either one of two things will happen:

-Sherk will take over and smother him into the canvas while landing the occasional GnP from the guard taking the dec. win.

    or

-BJ will somehow get Sherk's back, roll him over and struggle to sink in a deep RNC. he will eventually work through his thick neck and win via sub (RNC).

sherk is a good grappler and very fun to watch, however i don't think he's gonna be able to handle BJ. He's not gonna get the takedown, and if he does we saw what happened to Hughes. Except this time BJs ribs won't crack. Sherk has also lost 2 times, coincidently it was the only times he really faced top competition.

I fully expect sherk to get the takedown.. he's GOING to take penn down.. the problem is.. Penn is better on the ground and will take his back and submit you...

hughes had a lot of trouble taking penn down, and hughes is a lot bigger/stronger. BJ sprawled on his leg while hughes had a single. He got punched a few times before eh could get him down towards the end. If Sherk gets BJ down he's gonna punish him for it.

I think sherk is gonna try to stand for a bit to get BJ to stop thinking about the takedown, but BJ will pound him standing up and Sherk is gonna look for long range takedowns that will get stuffed.

Yeah, I think hughes is definitely more methodical and technical in his takedowns and with BJ's mentality that just.. works for him.. he can be that way and out-think your ass.

Sherk is just.. well.. the muscle guy, he'll come in at 90 miles an hour and just explode on you before you can adjust...

man, talking about this I cant wait to see it!

I think hughes is bigger but Sherk is stronger for sure. I think Hughes is certainly more technical and as Bit said Sherk is the muscle guy. I cant wait for this fight.

:werd: i haven't been this excited for a UFC event in a while. It's just so much fun to watch BJ, partly because he has become almost mythical, but partly because i can finally see him against top competition and see if he lives up to it all

I think its funny you guys really think Sean Sherk is going to overpower BJ Penn.

BJ Penn came underweight against Matt Hughes and GSP and wasn't overpowered by them at all, he fucking fought Ryoto Machida like 3-4 weight classes up his normal weight class and he still wasn't overpowered even as a flobby BJ Penn. You really think Sean Sherk is going to overpower BJ? Matt Hughes almost even caught Sherk with a kimura from the guard, Matt Hughes! And we're talking BJ Penn here who is light years ahead of Matt Hughes when it comes to BJJ on the ground for a MMA fight.
