People familiar with the matter say the search engine giant has just begun internal beta testing for the Mac-native version of the software.

While its proximity to a final release is still unknown, Picasa for Mac would serve as one of Google's few fully offline Mac apps and has often been one of the most conspicuous omissions on Apple's platform from a company otherwise known for its cross-OS friendliness in programs like Google Earth and SketchUp.

The company has previously made gestures towards integrating the app with Macs, including iPhoto and web plugins to upload images to Picasa's Web Albums service. To date, however, most observers have seen Picasa's basic organization, editing and sharing features as making the app a direct competitor to iPhoto that hasn't been as necessary as on Linux or Windows platforms, which have generally gone without rough equivalents.
About fucking time. I've been waiting for Picasa on Mac forever. iPhoto is the absolute biggest piece of shit program I've ever used, and I still prefer Picasa for managing and viewing my photos over LR, Bridge, etc (not for editing, obviously).

I actually installed Fusion and Windows on my Mac just so I could use Picasa.

I prefer to just create a folder with the name of event with date and just sort my pictures myself. No need for any program to sort them.. I have about 20k pics too.

Picasa is actually pretty neat and works great. You can email from it if you have a gmail acct, order prints, and do a lot more things. I just wouldn't want something else considering I already use lightroom. I haven't touched iPhoto since the day I bought my mac, and that was just to see what it did.

Ya I launched iPhoto once and found it to be totally useless (for me anyway)
As for lightroom I use it but not for a library, I just load the picture I want to edit then close the program. never tried it's library function kinda thing. I guess if you are batch processing images it might be worth it but for me since I'll work on a picture from time to time I don't see the advantage.

But I will try picasa for sure though, email directly sounds nice

You can also directly upload an album to picasa onilne (which is linked to your gmail account). It's really handy for showing picture albums to family and friends.

I have a couple hundred pictures uploaded on my gmail account, well on the picasa web thing. Just used the plugin and could upload 500 pics at a time. Either way I'll give this app a shot once it comes out

my pics are all pretty bad though :coolugh:

I wish I had a better camera and more skills when I went to Nepal, it's pretty much where I started enjoying photography.

I like Picasa, I just hate how it indexed every photo folder on my comp without asking. Tons of questionable pictures all in albums and shit, they're now passworded though

I'm wondering why the Mac version doesn't give you an option on which folder(s) to index. On my pc, I remember being able to tell it to just look in my "Pictures" folder and take all the subfolders.

I had to "remove from Picasa" a few folders that I didn't want in the index last night when I installed the mac version.

Oh, I'm using the PC version and it just indexed EVERYTHING without asking.
