ART Picking up a D7K tonight...what to look for?

The person I'm buying it from says it has 0 clicks on it..says he has a D300S and bought this bc he thought he'd want another DSLR, but decided he didn't need it.. comes with the 18-105 kit lens..

What should I check for to make sure everything is working and legit?

I'm bringing along an SD card so I can take a couple shots..I'll do it w/ and w/o flash...aperture mode, shutter mode, manual and try to make sure all the buttons work.. also gonna bring my 70-300 and make sure the af motor works on the D7K body..

Anything else I should make sure to check?

I love mine. Sounds like tt should be new enough that there shouldn't be any damage anywhere? Take the lens off, look at the mount/sensor.

And then enjoy an awesome camera.

I'd have him send you a raw image before hand...other than that, there's not much to look for other than cosmetic issues and making sure the camera takes pictures fine. 8FPS it.

Dunno.. quick check of the screen for scratches, cracks?

Same for the top LCD. I heard they often break on cameras

if you want to check and see if he's lying about the clicks, look at the file name of the first image you shoot. It should be DSC_001.nef (if shooting in RAW).

That can be reset easily. Take a pic, bring a laptop and check the EXIF.

Got it. It was brand new. Still had the peal off plastic on the screen cover. Everything fresh in the box, never even put the lens on the body

Now i am at a crossroad and unsure whether to order a 35 or 50mm 1.8

Gross generalisation but 35mm for indoor and 50mm for outdoor

35 is a nice "two people across a dinner table" distance

50 is too long for that and you'd have to get out of your chair and walk back a few steps

My g/f has the 35 1.8. It seems sharp and focus is pretty good. Bokeh isn't the most amazing, but it's fantastic for the price.

Yea 199 is great (for the 35). I think the 50 is even cheaper...

And get the 35mm...I had the 50, never used it. Now that I have (2) 35's I use it quite a bit. it's fun to do video with too vs. 50.

The guy seemed pretty normal; didn't seem the type to deal in stolen goods, but who knows. He said his gf bought it for him but he already has a d300s and woul rather just stick w/ that.

All I know is I got a sick deal

Heart ya man. Get the 35mm like I said and a lot of people already said. Shoot shoot shoot, then decide what lens will suit you best.

If you're going to get a 50mm, get the Sigma. End of story. Go buy the 35mm and get some clicks on that bish!

I'm gonna get the 35. Can't shoot for 3.5 wks though
