it's crap... he's squinting and his eyes are black and his face is red.
soft. he looks pissed. cropping is weird. sky is distracting.

I like the cross lighting. You should play around with portraits taken in different ways during the day like that, ie: front light, cross light, backlight, open shade. We did a project like that in my lighting class and everyone found that their subject looked the best in open shade. The thing with that is though that in the open shade it looks best if you add either a reflector to fill in the shadows or flash to bring sparkle in the eyes. Most people who don't know much about photography, not that I'm saying that's you, tend to shoot their subjects at noon with them facing the sun and the pictures are always terrible because everyone is pissed off because they have to look at the sun. It's better for everyone if backlight or open shade is used.
use the clone stamp to get rid of his acne.
This shot was actually just spontaneous. We were just driving around looking for stuff to do out in the po-dunk city we go to school in. Though it might be nice to give him a picture for using a crap load of gas. This is my first portrait and thanks for the tips.
