where do you put your hands to hold the bar?
The same place you'd hold the bar in the clean. For most people that's roughly shoulder width, maybe a little wider.
i cross them over in front and hold the bar on the anterior delts (you can see how ronnie does it in his vid). You just gotta find a comfortable spot to lay them, raise your arms so that they're parallel to the ground and that should help sort of create a "pocket" to set the bar. Might take a week or two to get used to them.
I do this:
in the arms crossed position you can't keep your chest up
yea i tried that shit with an empty bar and it went all over the place.
banging into the rack left and right. this guy next to me had to be laughing inside.
arms straight out!!
Works fine for me , but I haven't gone heavy on them yet. I'm sure I won't be able to hold my chest up if I up the weight.
i always cross my arms, but its always for lower weight atg after doing reg squats.
any tips on getting your elbows pointing forward when doing a front squat?
soooo... what is the consensus here. ive done them with arms crossed in front but i was very unstable.
i thought this was because i was new to the exercise and still skinny
hmm, i've never noticed that as a problem before, then i just tried to do them with no weight and while i definitely agree it makes it hard to keep your chest up i don't think i agree. I think you can keep it maybe not all the way up, but in a good enough position to do the exercise reasonably.
I do them olympic style with the bar resting on my shoulders
I agree with this.
I never go heavy on front squats. I'll do some higher rep sets on days when I'm doing ME DL just so I make sure my quads get hit hard enough, but with the lower weight I don't have a problem maintaining form.
