that's besides your earlier point isn't it

maybe let's just reel it in a bit
Not really, it was all part of the same general thesis within his Tragedy of Great Powers book and all part of the same grand theory construct.

Kinda like how Kaplan's grand theory pictured a world of anarchy and fractured city states, but he at least did note the violent breakup of the Balkans. Not sure how many points you get when 95% of the same general theory is unsubstantiated.

Counter factuals also arent really accurate predictions as there is no way to determine if he would have been correct in his assessment.

US fracking boom could tip world to edge of climate disaster

The study, to be published in the Energy Policy journal this month, found emissions from these oil and gas “carbon bomb” projects were four times larger than all of the planet-heating gases expelled globally each year, placing the world on track for disastrous climate change.

In March, a record 904 drilling permits were issued for companies operating in the Permian basin, according to the consultancy Rystad Energy. Typically, about 400-500 permits are approved each month but elevated oil prices and strong demand have caused an “unprecedented” and “extreme” increase, Rystad says.

“The Russian war in Ukraine is going to set climate change initiatives back under the cloak of patriotism when weaning ourselves off oil dictatorships and pivoting to renewables would be the patriotic choice."

There is significant political pressure to increase domestic drilling in response to the Russia-Ukraine war, which has caused global oil prices to soar and the US to ban Russian oil imports. Large oil companies are considering an expansion in drilling should the high oil price linger.

“We are wholly dependent upon oil and the crisis in Ukraine shows us that dependency is freighted with many costs, including national security. We can’t drill our way out of this problem. It’s been a good reminder that we are the world’s top oil producer and that still has not insulated us from this crisis."

Fracking isnt anything new, extraction just fluctuates with prices.

The funny thing about Russia and other troglodytes accusing NATO of conducting a proxy war is that is exactly what Russia's invasion of Ukraine was intended to be. A proxy war against NATO. Which is a proxy war against the US. One of their stated goals was to stop NATO from accepting countries that insisted on joining. To weaken NATO. To push back its borders.

But since their invasion failed so completely now they are whining about NATO it's fighting a proxy war against them. It's like... The ship has sailed as far as the West feeling guilty about actually standing up to you. Regardless of if you call it a proxy war or act like it is crossing the line for countries to aid their ally when it is being invaded or try to act like it is unfair that the West actively now wants to hurt you so you can't do it again, this is all on you. You chose this war. You decide every day to continue to hurt yourself by continuing this war. You can fuck off with whining about it.

You burned any bridges of the West thinking it might have gone too far when you started targeting civilians and raping children in occupied territories. Russia should be counting its lucky stars that their worst complaint is the proxy part of the proxy war. Whether it is a proxy war doesn't make the actions any less just and we can remove the proxy part whenever we choose.
its kind of liberating, isn't it?

The US would have inventoried where all of their military equipment was, barracks, and critical infrastructure destroying it all day one. Real time intelligence would have mopped up anything that moved after that. They would need an Iraq/Afghanistan style insurgency to outlast the US resolve.

and even that wasnt a military lack; it was a political lack.
