Seems the only way to accomplish that would be to take out a whole carrier force and/or US bases in Japan. Does China have capabilities to even do that, and especially with any sort of surprise?

Maybe. These dudes sim out all of this type of stuff using DCS, can get kinda long but pretty interesting. Basically if they get off a large enough salvo of supersonic anti-ship missiles, a US CSG might not be able to stop it.

Supposedly their banking and construction economies are already very strained - how's it gonna be when Sanctions = no exports = many companies folding = mass unemployment?
