i've had a stress fracture in my L5 vertebrae for about 5 years now. I'm a volleyball player so it won't heal and i can't get surgery until i graduate in one more year. The injury hasn't gotten worse for about 3 yrs or since i've been lifting, but it bugs the hell out of me when i do deadlifts, its by far the most painful exercise next to certain ab workouts. I feel like i need to do the deadlifts to strenghten that area, but it hurts too bad to do them. I'm pretty sure it won't worsen my fracture if i do it so i'm wondering if i should just bear through the pain and strengthen those muscles any advice?
