Realistically, how hard would it be

    60% of the time, I'm in around every time.
    to build a home stereo amp, particularly a tube amp? What I'm discovering is that I have fine wine tastes, but I'm on a beer budget, so to speak. Tube amps seem to be incredibly overpriced for what you get. (As many of you know, $2k for an amp is still somewhat on the low-end scheme of things.) Has anyone ever tried building their own amp? Were you happy with the results? Any good links or books to check out?

    Why exactly do you want tube amplification?

    They have several kits available, try this one:

    The problem is that it is only 3.5 watts each, not very much power, especially if you have inefficient speakers.

    As for tube amplifiers being overpriced, I totally agree. Even that kit is probably a bit expensive for what you get.
