My friend played years ago and I've avoided the game for various reasons. Mainly I didn't have time back when I was still in school and working full time. I've been done with school a while now though and have nothing better to do with my time...so here we go :noes:

How do I get in to it? More specifically, which version do I need to buy? I haven't really looked but it seems like there are a ton of different versions. Or are they just upgrades? If they are just upgrades, which is the 'main' one and do I need any upgrades?

To really get in to it do I need to join some group or can I go at it myself on my own time?

I know this may seem retarded but whatever. I figure I may get 1 real response.

just get the first one, you don't need to waste your money on the expansions obviously, until you're ready (level 58+) /if you even want to keep playing.

*edit
i think its like 20 bucks for the first one.
also you can pick up a 10 day trial for free now i think***

Yea I found that free trial and just downloaded it.

Kind of a lot going on in the game with all the shit across the bottom of the screen. I'm used to CS:S where you have a gun and that's about it, ha.

I assume it gets better than killing 11 animals for a mission?

How do I use the archery training gloves? It said to just drag them from the backpack to my character, but it doesn't do anything when I do that.

shortcut to equip gear is just right click it when its in your bag, it will automatically go where its supposed to. and no, its pretty much kill x amount of this or that to finish this quest. if you don't get addicted to getting phat lewtz then you'll probably lose interest

purps ftw. :bowdown::bowdown:

missions vary. early on you do lame shit like kill murlocs or wolves or whatever. there are the instance missions where you pwnz the boss or wipe hardcore whilst sucking your thumb. later on you do bombing missions, saving people, killing people, killing the already dying people, stuff like that. while many quests follow the general theme of go to x and do y to equal z, there is always some variety, some twist to it. some are short chains, spanning a single quest. some are overly complex, like the wrathgate questline, which is pretty epic in itself. and questing is a means to make money and quicken the level grinding process.

when you're looking at items you want to equip, there will be some lettering on the right hand side (leather, mail, plate, cloth). Depending on what you are and at what lvl, you may or may not be able to equip it. if the item fabric (for lack of a better word at 2am) is in red, you can't equip it.

Quick armor sheet:
mage, priest, warlock - cloth
druid, rogue, hunter - leather
paladin, warrior, shaman, hunter @ lvl 40 - mail
death knight, warrior and paladin @ lvl 40 - plate

The 12 slots at the bottom of the screen (left to center) can be your macro keys, clicking spell/attack keys, whatever you want. durinng tBC, i set the second row of keys with various items i used during my dailys for quicker runs. i have all my action bars up but use maybe 12 total (prot pally). i use even less with my hunter.

wow can be fun. it can also be a grind. find a class that you enjoy and work on it. don't be afraid to experiement. but be smart and read up on it. i've been a prot pally since august of 07. i didn't know how to play my class or what to do/get until march of 08. i had long past been 70 by that point.

pvp is also pretty cool. wintergrasp is an awesome pvp zone and i try to do it daily. building seige weapons and destroying the hordes?:bowdown:

enjoy!

So in playing around with it I got rid of whatever the default #5 was and #1 which was the attack command. How can I get those back?

Do you have any idea what #5 was? Should I even be worried about it?

I picked night elve/rogue because it said something about ranged weapons. How do I go about getting ranged weapons instead of this shitty knife?

If you want ranged, go Huntard

CodeX

Dont worry about it, all of those slots are meant to be customized the way you want anyway.

You didn't lose anything by removing it, think of it as a link to an ability or item. If it was an ability (an attack, a spell, etc) you can find it in your spell book, it is the icon that looks like a book near the bottom middle of your screen. If it was an item you can find it in one of your bags, the 5 buttons to the furthest right on your bar

You can drag anything you find in your spellbook or in your inventory into one of those customizeable slots on your bar, as long as it is something that can be used.

Yeah, if you wanted ranged you should try a mage, warlock, druid, or hunter.

You can't change midway, right? I would have to start over now? I'm only level 6 which took maybe an hour or so.

Well, i dont know about in the trial but in the full version you can have 10 characters per server and 50 total across all servers, so you could keep your level 6 rogue if you wanted to play it later and start a new character of another class at the same time.

Once you get familiar with the game start looking into mods to streamline the game better

Personally I'd vouch for xperl, bartender 4, bayi's extended quest log, gatherer, Atlas loot, Questhelper.

This is the most casual mmo there is.

You can go 1-80 and never have to interact with anyone.

the quests pretty much follow the same formula's and now and then you get the oddball ones in expansions.

kill, find, escort, gather.

questing is just a part of the game though there's more to things than leveling.

once you hit level cap you can then devote time to griefing the other faction players, pvp in bg's or arenas, raiding, heroic dungeon running.

pitbull :bowrofl:

...what a douche, I have used both extensively and they do the same basic thing, you can set them up to be almost exactly the same.
You can make pitbull look like xperl, but you can't make xperl not look like shit.

get out of here douche, no one likes you.

I'll make a new one tonight. Horde is the way to go, huh?
Personal preference really. I don't like the look of Alliance races and had a friend who played Horde so it was a no brainer. Other than some population balance issues on some pvp servers, it really doesn't matter what faction you choose.
