Cops says man shoots self in leg, makes up carjacking story May 11, 2007 Ferndale - Police say a Ferndale man made up a carjacking story to cover up the fact that he’d shot himself in the leg. On Wednesday, Alan Royle, 42, found himself charged with falsely reporting an incident, a misdemeanor, and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation. State police said that on May 5, Royle reported an assault and an attempted carjacking. He was taken to Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris and treated for a bullet wound in his leg, and there he told police a man tried to steal his car from his driveway, and in the process shot him in the leg. Police said Royle had actually shot himself accidentally with a .22-caliber Winchester rifle. When they investigated his claims, they also found a small amount of marijuana in his home. Royle was released, pending an appearance in Liberty Town Court.
