should I bring something?
Yeah.. she lives at home, going to pick her up, so I can only assume her parents will be there. Not like I'm going there specifically to meet them.
If it was a dinner, yes. But you are just picking her up. No gift. Just be polite, say hi and shake the dad's hand
^ This guy's hilarious.
This man speaks the truth! But it might be due to the sex panther he wears?
I like those odds..
I know the drill about being polite, etc..
she's 22, and is actually moving out in about a week, not that it matters.
Box of chocolates? Who, other than Forrest Gump, brings chocolates to a dinner?
ya never know what ya gonna get!
or a box of wine
I didn't step foot into my gf's house until we'd been dating over a month LOL
And you think a box of chocolates is not cliche?
only if they live in a trailer...
3 months for me.
One of the things that really won me (and my mother) over on my current SO was how well he treated my mom
My moms kind of in the mindset that calling someone your parents age by their first name is impolite, so all of my friends call her Miss SoandSo, and my best friend calls her mom. When he asked what to call her I said Miss SoandSo, I assume she'll eventually tell him to call her by her first name. When he refers to her though, like, when she isn't around, he doesn't say 'your mom' he says mom, which he'll probably eventually call her regularly.
I'm at a loss as to what to call his mom, Mrs SoandSo, he said, is way too formal for his family, and calling her Ami (urdu for mom) would be weird since we're not married. He suggested the Urdu word for Auntie, so we'll see.
I honestly think this will be the best route for me. She only speaks urdu and english, and her english isn't GREAT so we'll see how that goes.
For some reason i'm not as intimidated by the idea of meeting his father. He speaks arabic as well and for whatever reason the fact that I can talk to him in Arabic is really comforting ,and I have a better handle on what to call him in that language.
I only speak fusha
I'm learning leventine dialect right now, but things are shway shawy at best
I called my ex's mom (who's name is Anabel), "Annie's mommy". She loved me though because I was always goofy and making her laugh.
Probably the dumbest thing I done since I started calling her that when I didn't know her at all.
My bf calls my mom and dad by name, but then again...so do I
They don't mind it at all.
