When you're already calorie restricted, drinking 400 calories a day makes the hunger that much worse. So I'm thinking about substituting my post-workout shake (400 cals, 50g protein, 50g malto) for just a regular meal (ideally low-fat, high carb) of about the same calories. I figure I always eat a 600 calorie whole food meal before working out, so most of those nutrients are still in my blood/being digested by the time I'm done working out. So I don't really see the need for a huge insulin spike post-workout. Any thoughts on this? Anyone done it? Any good post-workout meals people have found? For as long as I've lifted, I've done a post-workout shake instead of whole food.
