Turned out to be not quite as big a deal as I thought. VA gave me 50% disability for my fucked up thumb. The doc at Med Det asked me if I wanted to deploy. I told him I wouldn't be there if I didn't. He had me pick up varying weights with my thumb/forefinger and pronounced me good to go. I have a permanent profile, but it doesn't restrict me from doing anything. He did caution me about the rest of the injuries listed on the VA report (that they haven't made a determination on yet). Most of them are minor, but he said that if they gave me anything above 0% on the TBI, I'd be sitting out this and any other deployment that came along. I think I'll give the guys at the VA a call tomorrow and ask them to hold off on my paperwork for a few years.
