I sat down with my coach today to finally talk about fighting. I have been training with him for a total of 2 years, but there was a large gap of a whole year in there... so it was more like 8 months on and off (lazy), year break after getting married, and now I've been training hard 5 days a week for 4 months. He told me he wanted to take me down to the MMA organizations he knows in Ohio, but he wants me to be ready. So we talked about training hard for another 6 months and entering some grappling tournaments to get my feet wet, then looking for a fight around March. That gives me some time to get my weight down. Right now I'm at 220. I need to get down to 210-ish by December 3rd so I'm not in the Superheavyweight/Unlimited division at the next Michigan tourney. It's only gi, which I don't like. But it's competition, and my first tourney, which I need. I want to get down to 190-ish between then and March so I can fight at 185. I began my journey at 250, so it's been and will be a tough road. Right now I'm training 5 days a week in BJJ, CSW, Boxing, Muay Thai, and some Savate (mainly just for a class in that slot and conditioning). I'm also probably going to take some private lessons from one of the more advanced guys at our gym in MMA. He's a great grappler and has fought local Shooto matches. Only $30 an hour too as opposed to $100. So wish me luck guys. 6 months and I'll be stepping into the cage for the first time.
