man, I hope not. I really want to see that and I hope it's not wussified for the masses.
here's an idea: you can read the book and find out what the movie is going to be about!
yeah, because hollywood has never fucked up a book adaptation before right?
fuck off. oh, and get an avatar you worthless n00b.
book was sweet....not really anti war.
so avvy's are like dick size now huh? interesting....
I hope not either. Ranger said he was going to try and hook me up so I can see it.
this isn't the fucking main forum dickhead, you can take your hate and get the fuck out
challenging you to think
oh ho ho someone's compensating for something.
1. if you had read the book you would have realized the theme of the movie; it was actually quite crappy and demeaning towards the Corps.
2. you notice that little gray orb next to my name? that means i paid for my yearly sub already so you can shove your attitude up your ass.
3. you must be confused as to which forum you're in, because here it only matters if you're wearing cammies to work and when you're 33 and still have your piece of shit attitude i'm pretty sure you were never in the military anyways so why don't you just shut the fuck up.
We've got an e-thug on our hands .
God damn piece of shit, never make another post in this forum. Since ranger hasn't seen this thread yet, i'm going to go ahead and officially warn your punk ass on his behalf .
This subforum is a bit different than the main forum, in that we typically give more credit for life experience than for avatar selection. But while we're on the subject, we also have a higher subscription rate per poster than any other forum on OT.
Back to the topic: I hope the movie is good but like everything that comes out of hollywood I have my doubts.
you know, wtf? I make a thread with a legit question and the first post off the bat is some smart ass telling me to go read the book? so I told the guy to f' off, what's the big deal? no one seems to to mind that instead of actually answering my question or making a relevant comment he just dismissed it and told me to read the book.
in any event, I'll say Im sorry about the come back reply. for the record, I have served in the military and actually served during the war the movie is based in. I was just curious to see if it was actually going to depict what went on out there or another movie for michael moore's collection.
I understand - and you definitely stand out in my book with this post. Most OTers would have been considerably less mature in their reply, given the dogpile that you got.
Welcome [back] to Teh Barracks! Post up in the "who are you" thread and make yourself at home.
i said read the book because it gives you an idea of what the movie is like. i didn't include any of my own editorial opinions as to not taint how you would percieve the book. the reviews on the book is that it's a fairly unrealistic retrospective of a marine in the gulf war with a dour demeanor. i'm expecting the movie to be based on said theme but filled with scenes created from his bullshit stories such as mopp football or his deal with boozing and schmoozing and dealing with brass.
did i dismiss your post? no. because the movie is out and no one has seen it, what possibly can we discuss? rah rah hardcore moto? but the book has been published and been out to the public for quite a long time.
you didn't tell me to fuck off, YOU dismissed me on grounds of supposedly i'm an AV-less noob. i PAID for my subscription but you would base my worth of my words on a stupid picture under my name, so hey here's still a fuck you for that.
other than that, hi. the book sucked, treat it as a fancy fiction of bullshit stories marine would tell each other, the movie surely will be dour. oorah on your service in the first war.
there's two types of marines: those that love the corps and those that hate the corps. both types bitch and moan but still carry on with their job with professionalism until ETS.
swafford was the type of marine that hated the corps, bitches and moans, absolved all sense of professionalism and proper conduct, and is a liar and a thief with mental issues that he tried to run away to the corps hoping to resolve but never does and blames the war for his problems.
i treated the book as FICTION. it's NOT an autobiography and it's not a history book and it's not a primer on how to live as marine, a guide to war, or even something to give to my mom to help her understand the mentality i go through while at war. in all the book was nonrepresentative of me as a marine. it is more about swafford's headcase and it just happens that he's a marine but the book still nonetheless is demeaning towards the corps because his account of how it supposedly is like might be filmed and shown to an audience gobbling it all up.
I dont give a shit if the movie is anti-war propoganda or not, i just hope its good.
hahaha in the book it talks about war movies being anti-war. They're anti war to the masses, but to the people in the military their porn. Glorifying their skills.
I'll tell you guys after I see it tomorrow. Sneak Preview
The commercials appear like the movie is about the persian gulf war? Is that right? Never read the book.
so you steal MREs and other marines' gear to resell at the surplus stores?
so you played MOPP football in a combat zone?
so you don't shave in the field until absolutely necessary because of press?
so you wear earings while on leave?
so you disrespect officers and staff NCO?
you like frenching rifles?
i can fill a book with shit about the corps too, all marines could, but to say swafford's version somehow unmasks what it's really like is demeaning to the corps because even though i'm not a highspeed scout sniper i'm not a thief, a liar, and all around nutcase.
generation kill was a good book though.
no. swafford said in the first few pages of his book that he steals MREs from supply and gear from other marines and sells them for spending money.
swafford calls his captain of the unit before transfering a cocksucker and says the captain only laughed about it.
he meets a staff sergeant that doesn't want junior marines to call him a staff sergeant and he calls battalion commanders fuckers on radio without reprecussion.
swafford went into details about how he would lick and frenchkiss his rifle as well as a plethora of mental issues that were with him before the corps but he still blames the corps for his problems.
pony shows isn't endangering lives in a combat situation with MOPP gear.
swafford never shaved while in the field because somehow the STA platoon is above that, he only did it because he was going to be on tv.
highspeed platoons may have leniency but they're not complete shitbags either. i see swafford's book as entertainment, if you feel that what he has written showed what it was like then great, i hope you had a great time. weirder shit have happened overseas and honestly i'm not old and experienced enough to say what has or hasn't happened but after finishing the book all i could say is that the corps isn't like that considering all the bullshit and safety rules we put up with.
