Whats a good alternative to this? Shoot thru umbrella?
alien bees makes foldable soft boxes. I haven't used one but it might be a good alternative.
Shoot thru umbrellas work fine outside and in bigger areas. The problem is that you get a lot of light spill in smaller areas.
Collapsable softboxes are easy to cart around but they're not exactly cheap. My big one set me back about $100.
I use the larger brolly box from alienbees and it works great. That was my only light modifier used for my final portfolio in my studio lighting class and the results I got from it were outstanding for the 35 dollars I payed for it.
My soft box does come apart though. Maybe I can just break it down and stuff it into a bag or something.
i use a beauty dish for on location shoots when its windy.
soft box umbrella till i die
shoot through if i need a little more contrasty light.
do you raelly have "shoots"?
or are you just talking about when you want to take it somewhere
Yes I do. I am learning alot and I test with people all the time.
its really not that big of a deal to take down/set up, though the more expensive ones are far easier at this.
the biggest problem is wind
Sandbags or assistants solve that
sometimes yes, sometimes no
I scoff at your puny softboxes BUHAAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!
No 12' x 12' no care.
thats a huge scrim
that movie looks really boring.
:30 seconds of fury!!
This one is easily handled by two guys. I've seen pics of scrims that cover three or four city blocks!!
