Who here has tried to maintain a relationship while overseas? Did the relationship survive?
Yes and yes.
Yes and No...but then yes
My g/f right now will actually be moving to Europe while I deploy this time.
I'm going to bite my tounge on this one.
to those that had it work out, how did you pull it off?
Too be honest I think the majority do not work out and that is mainly because people rush into relationships before they deploy or expect their SOs to wait for them when neither person has ever had to go through a situation similar to a deployment before.
My advice is if you are in a new relationship (Or are very young) then it's best to just split before a deployment and allow the other person some freedom to see if there is anyone else out there. If things are meant to be then they will be available when the person returns, if not then they will be involved with someone else and there won't be any drama.
Yes it's nice to get mail and what not when deployed but friends and family can do this with alot less heartache then a new SO.
yes and no and yes also
my girlfriend and i were young when i left...so naturally it didnt work out when she went to college
but im talking to her again now 4 years later and as expected her priorities are straightening out
I'm not overseas but my "girlfriend" is in Alabama and I'm in South Dakota. I hate it and I'm trying as hard as I can to break up with her but I'm too much of a pussy to do it.
your best friend is no fucking your girl friend, suzy rotten-crotch ... true story
... i had a g/f before i got sent to okinawa ... everyone and their mother will say i cheated on her ... bah! ... the girls in okinawa meant nothing to me... masturbation wasnt doing it anymore!!!
i'm gonna marry my g/f soon ... we've been with each other for about 6 years ... almost 7 ... she's been with me through my jail sentence, okinawa staion, phillipines deployment, iraq deployment ... wether or not she's been faithful is up to her ... i'm not going to question her.
when she comes to live with me here in california, i will be a devout husband and father ... true story, no lies
