I finally got back into the gym today after a long break after feeling a pain in my left nut while squatting (despite what stance I used) 225. The break was roughly 2 to 3 weeks long. Went back into the gym yesterday afternoon for about 45 minutes, did squats up to 225x5, then just did a bunch of random stuff around the gym. Felt perfectly fine. I'm thinking maybe I should go on a routine that didn't have me squatting 3x a week, good mornings, deadlifts, etc in nearly every workout (I was on Bill Starr's routine). The thing is though, I liked the volume and intensity of those workouts and I was progressing enough to take joy in it. I've been considering continuing the routine, but taking an extra day's break between each workout. Meaning, Monday, Thursday, Sunday... Wed, Sat, Tues... etc. I've already tried taking an extra day off at the end of the week, hell, even two extra days off... and apparently it wasn't quite enough. Could anybody offer me some input?
