decent scope for a 30-06?
I'm looking into getting a scope for it, but have no clue where to start.
How much you looking to spend, what ranges you going to be shooting at?
Right now the only range I'd be using it for is up to 100 yards, it could be more eventually.
As for price, well I know alot of the time you get what you pay for, I'd like to keep prices down, but still get a decent functioning pice of hardware. So keeping it under 250 or so if possible.
Id say maybe a Bushnell Elite 3-9x40 or 50
Ive heard good things about them
Leupold VX-1? I have the 4-12x40 on my Savage 93, and love it.
100 yards? Use irons, and become proficient with them.
maybe his bolt action 30-06 doesn't have irons.
pump and it does have them, just looking for something a little more accurate and for use later off the range.
The use of irons is overlooked these days.. at 100 yards, an Able target 12 in in diameter, is huge. I'm not a huge fan of the Marine KD course of fire, but it does teach the fundamentals of marksmanship damn well.
I need to shoot more with irons before deer season 3 misfires with my muzzeloader today
percussion, 209, or flint?
209s, the breechplug was gummed up to the point that 3 caps didnt clear it which is quite suprising. I can't say I'm real shocked it happened since I havent fired it in probably 6 months but I am kind of suprised cause I keep my shit clean
Probably a dumb question, given your background, but WD40 hasn't ever come near your firearms, has it? That's the only thing that comes to mind.
shit no man honestly it looked like a granule of powder was in there but if it was it must've been wedged to fuck and moist since it didnt burn. I bought new triple 7 primers and fired one to clear the plug before shooting and noticed there was alot of carbon or whatever all over the nipple and just thought the primers werent as clean as advertised (they actually are very clean) I fired 3 triple 7 primers, one regular (hotter) 209, and hit it with an air compressor. I eventually cleared it by taking apart a pipe cleaner and using the wire. T'was a horrible day
Not cool. I hate malf drills, I can't imagine how they'd have gone in muzzleloading eras
You wouldn't have a good source for non-CCI caps, would you? Bro in law is a reenactor and the best company for caps went tits up, and apparently CCI's caps tend to splode about four inches from your eye.
No idea, I just checked mid south and midway but all they have is CCIs. I've never dealt with anything besides an inline, hell my muzzleloader doesnt even have irons on it
