It's not a mandatory update though....
I have a feeling they are doing this because theres a hole in ps3s security through linux.
I havent turned on my ps3 for a few months so maybe il just leave it off till theres a hack or gt5 comes out with good online play.
I know most gamers won't be bothered at all but the few who bought it to use Linux on it too that's ridiculous
sony removes hardware bc to cut costs
sony removes software bc to cut costs
sony removes specific models from the market
sony reduces number of USB ports
sony removes other frontal ports
sony removes other OS feature
sony removes ps3 disc compatibility to cut costs
removing launch features...one step at a time
It only does everything
Funny because my 60gb still has all those features.
mine does too.
but after the update you'll lose the OS feature
But they're all worthless.
Cept BC, and even that's worthless to most people.
They were losing a shitload of money on those launch systems.
They had to cut shit out to make them more cost effective
please let this be an April Fools joke.....
I enjoy my Linux PS3....
What's the point of having linux on it? Just for fun?
I use it for SNES emulation for my son and myself. Took me a good day to figure out how to set the damn thing up... I know some people that use it to rip BluRays onto an external HD,
and the biggest security flaw i can think of is that the community might have finally figured out how to access the Video memory and GPU to give it ps3 like gaming capabilities while in Linux (before it just did everything from the processing core.)
Not bad at all, I thought people just did it for nerd cred.
Considering this is the first we've heard of this and it just so happens that it's being released in a few days on APRIL 1st, I wouldn't doubt it is a joke.
On the slim chance that it is a real thing, I don't use the linux feature (never saw a reason to), so wouldn't care.
You are not vistrix
i hope this is a joke, i never use it anymore but i know a lot of people who do
Oh fuck no. I use linux on my PS3 for everything
Oh wait no I dont. Couldnt give a fuck
youre british your opinion doesnt count
My thoughts exactly when i read this last night on digg.
Fucked. Im sure they have a "piracy prevention team" or something to that effect. The easiest way would be to use the os id imagine.
Oh well. No one has hacked it yet. Guess we will keep waiting to see if anyone does.
so does my 20(60).
I guess none of the updates have been "mandatory" then
I wonder if they're doing this because they found out that the dude that hacked the iPhones found a way to hack the PS3.
