They apparently plan on having 8 major franchises released in the next few years...even though they apparently can't even put out FF XIII :rofl:

They've been garbage ever since they merged. They haven't put out anything decent in years.

    Squaresoft > *.

Theyve put out plenty of good titles. Too bad the majority of people these days are jaded as hell.

No, they are nowhere near where they used to be. Its just a big cash crop now. Fuck them and putting out 50 games each month. I was a diehard fan since the SNES days but after the PS1 gen they really went downhill FAST (FFX was very good but that's the only shining beacon in the shit pile). everything else since has been utter shit.

Squaresoft ruled....Enix was always kinda "merrr". I never got into Enix games....always loved Squaresoft games. When it became SquareEnix I think Squaresoft sent over 1 team member and everyone else was Enix...and since then it's been a shit fest of games.

    :ugh:

Yeah, lets keep remaking the same fucking games that have been out for 20 years instead of making some new with original content. And just because they are the biggest jrpg developer doesn't mean they make good games.

And what plenty of good games have they made since 2003? Only one comes to mind, Kingdom Hearts series.

I agree with what everyone here has said so far... except Clancer :mamoru:

Funnily enough, I just read that Squeenix cut 200-300 jobs recently... set sail for fail!

Enix was one of the few companies I know of that made "true" RPGs. The Dragon Quest games to me have always seemed like the most perfect models of what an RPG should be. Plus Mischief Makers is my favorite game of all time.

The merge has only signified the union of the two best RPG developers around

Well shit, they have 5 final fantasy games alone slated for release within the next two years.

I do not give a crap though. Call me a fanboy, but if Squareenix releases a game chances are I will at least take a look at it.

They might be the biggest, but right now I would say Level-5 is the best. In terms of originality and quality, they are my favorite developer going right now. Now, FFXIII could be totally awesome and swing me back into my square lovefest, but we will just have to wait and see.

Kingdom Hearts was actually started back when they were still sqauresoft. Then Kingdom Hearts II was Square Enix and was less quality than the first

You're absolutely right. Don't get me wrong, it's not that I'm saying Enix is a bad company by any means. They're actually a great RPG company. But just as you said, they do make "true" RPG's and I guess what that made me realize is that I'm not a die hard RPG player.

Because when I tried to play a few of their actual RPG's (IoG and Actraiser don't really count, but I liked those games) I just didn't feel connected to them like I did to Squaresoft games. I liked Illusion of Gaia, but Nintendo had a hand in that and it was like a Zelda/FF mix. It wasn't a typical Enix game.

For me, most of the RPG games that I loved came from Squaresoft, and at the time I was first playing them, I didn't even realize they were all the same company (not at first - I was younger). When the Squaresoft name stopped being used and they just started using Square, things felt a bit different ...and in 2003 when they merged it was like the nail in the coffin...I am not feelin the FF games anymore and there are WAY too many.

There was just something special about those old games...maybe it was the story, the gameplay, the look, my childhood...I don't know. But I just felt like that Square charm is lost. It was like Enix took over completely and just had the name...which honestly, was probably not a bad thing for most of the world, I just havent been able to get into an RPG the same way I could get into Squaresoft games. I can't explain it. I don't WANT it to be like that, I wish I could feel the same way about a game that I felt when I played Final Fantasy II and III and Chrono Trigger...but a game has not come along (for me) since that Squaresoft era. It's sorta sad :(
