Other than core, what are the other advantages/disadvantages to a standing press (barbell)
your scapula can move freely when your back isn't supported
personally when I do em I will throw in push presses at the end of my last set or two once I fail or come close to it. can't do that with seated and I think it's a good burnout kinda tactic.
Less pressure on the spine when you stand.
on strict presses you can handle more weight with back support
All great answers. To me there IS nothing as important as what it does for your core. Ethan Reeves, SC coach at Wake Forest, even has the football players do their DB curls standing.
curls are bad for you bro...you of all people should know that...
Actually Reeves doesn't approve either but he tells them as long as they stand they can do them.
i do standing because im too lazy to bring over a bench to the rack
didn't know that but thats interesting...
everytime I've tried to go heavy on any sort of curls by bicep tendons hurt like hell...
you sent me a video of you doing them seated
Dude whats on your youtube then
yeah i did that once, but 90% of the time i do them standing
where's that vid of the guy doing the dance/warmup in the squat rack?
sean got it on his tube i think
I wish mine would have warned me like that. I was using a 160 bar, which is 40 short of my max, and BLING! off it went. Now I just use cables, I quit.
Oh my fucking god that was amazing on so many levels. He's beating the shit out of the squat rack with his forearms!
are curls really bad for you? . It seems every month or so, i hurt/strain something else and want to avoid any further damage. I've been doing curls since I was real young, but now I have shooting pain in the forearm when i do barbell curls.
Jesus fuck this video again... fucking awesome.
Where I train, the platforms are near the speed bag. Well, they used to bring in this group of "special" folks, and this one kid, would go ape shit on it. He would hit it as hard as he could straight for 3 minutes at a time--not the way you are supposed to, I mean haymaker style. He would make weird noises and start talking to us in between his sets of flipping out, usually when we in the middle of a lift, and then back to unleashing his special fury on the poor speedbag. Eventually he broke the bladder in it. It was interesting. I wish I had a camera...
Link to Nude's Youtube pls?
curls are great, dont ever ignore a bodypart. there are a lot of PL's and SM's that don't put much effort into certain muscle groups and that to me is just a recipe for injury in the future.
I stand because it's easier to get the weight up by just cleaning it. maybe I'm doing something wrong if that's not an issue for everyone else when seated.
