I read to the end of this thread looking for an answer, and I didn’t get it.

I don’t care about the markets or banks. I just need to know what the fuck @obscure/renegade did with his 2 eggs?!?
I turned them over easy like @Do it To it 's girlfriend, along with some awesome prep pancakes recommended by @rcm, and one (1) full diesel sausage patty. Shit was glorious.

Bro this is just transitory
"
Meanwhile, both the FDIC and Federal Reserve are working with firms on a potential merger with the failed institution.

They are also said to be weighing the creation of a fund that would allow regulators to backstop more deposits.

Any deal would also likely require regulators to give special guarantees and make other allowances to the financial institution that takes over SVB. "

Backstop NOT a Bailout and yes there is a difference.

Fed and FDIC discussing backstop to make SVB depositors whole and stem contagion fears: Source

  • Regulators would create a backstop for uninsured deposits at Silicon Valley Bank, using an authority from the Federal Deposit Insurance Act, according to the source.
  • Such a move could also spur confidence at similar institutions to SVB.
  • An additional step would be a “general banking facility” from the Federal Reserve that would support other financials with direct exposure to SVB.

I'm curious how much SVB's unsecured counterparties are gonna lose. I'm sure several of the major banks will be taking some losses.

From the stats I read, seemed like SVB was a huge anomaly in terms of their % of assets in the HTM bucket. Plus a unique scenario where their specific depositors are drawing down on their deposits to a much greater degree than any other normal bank because the 2020-2022 startup hype machine is dead and money only goes out. They will probably need to clean up a couple small banks and we’ll be back to normal right ? :dunno:

Fed opened the discount window to anyone who wants it.

Shouldn't be anymore bank takeovers since banks can borrow unlimited now up to their balance sheet to cover withdraws.

Yeah, but even if they didn’t, barring any (further) tech-bro-induced bank runs, I don’t think there was much to worry about.
