I work in IT for the US Forest Service, and this is a fairly common problem on our Windows 2000 computers (currently being phased out). What pisses me off is that on about 1 out of every 2 of these, by the time I can reach the users, they have already talked to "the local computer guy" who reimaged the computer. So instead of a 5 minute process with zero data loss, you have a pissed off user with all of his data gone, and all because the "local computer guy" doesn't know that all you have to do is force-mount the partition and then reboot. Some days I really hate working in IT. Just wanted to gripe.
