What do I need?
Ultrawideband. I don't think it's available commercially yet.
Depends. What codec? Pure 1080p has a bandwidth in excess of 125mbit, but a Matroska could be sufficiently compressed to work well within the confines of 802.11g. Need more info, son.
x264 codec, all files are mkv
You'll need a HTPC or some form of media player at the TV. Nothing overkill but it will need a bit of muscle to play HD (any modern CPU will do). Need a TV that supports 1080P on the VGA input (most do), or a video card that supports HDMI or HDCP out (not common). You will need a consistent wireless connection between the PC and HTPC, as your HD stream will be 4mbps roughly. Poor quality or signal won't cut it. That's the gist of what you'll need.
i would honestly think about running wire
too bad there aren't any standalone x264/h264 dvd players. maybe i'll just build a little computer for my tv
Not exactly what you want, but worth a look:
This one can take an installed H.264 plugin:
Try one of these.
