Some dude on PassatWorld posts a thread asking "what is the EVAP valve for?" So I go in to answer his question, that it lets the engine suck fumes out of the gas tank instead of letting them evaporate, and what do I find? He's asking what it's for because he wants to remove it. His justification is he wants to remove everything that doesn't add power -- he's already removed half the exhaust, the A/C, the power steering, etc -- but unlike all of those, the EVAP canister doesn't cost any power either! To which he responds by calling me a fucking tree hugger and saying he'll only lose a couple gallons of gas a year through evaporation, and removing it will lighten the car. But, you know, he doesn't want to remove the rear and passenger seats, which weigh probably 15x as much as the whole EVAP system combined, because that will make the car look funny. Of course, I've been labeled a tree hugger because I don't see the logic in removing emissions equipment that doesn't even steal any power, so it doesn't matter what I say at this point. I got news for you kid, it's a 3600lb car with a 1.8L engine. It's not gonna go fast no matter how much shit you remove. Some people.
