I was told at the end last drill I was being put up for it. go!
Figure out what your strong points are.
If your strong points are knowledge hone those and be ready for any question that comes. Simply studying "general" knowledge is not going to cut it.
If your strong points are presentation, military bearing...those are the ones your want to concentrate on. Have your NCO run your through mock boards. Fire off questions for you in a shot-gun style.
Make sure you uniform is IMMACULATE!
I was Marine of the Year twice...and when I changed over to the army I was Soldier of the year once. NCO of the year for the Military District of Washington, the 29 Infantry Division, and the 1/115th Inf all in the same year.
Parris04 hit some good points.
Uniform better be locked on....to include your boots.
Bearing is also key.
A pretty common question at the end of it is why you think you should win...think about it and know why you want it more than the Marines you will be up against.
Ask your NCO's for some help to get ready for it.
when you answer a question, look at the Marine that asked the question as if you were going to kick his ass. unless you are still at POA, then your fucking eyesballs dont move
Kind of repeat the question also when you answer.
"1stSgt, the maximum effective range of bla bla bla is bla bla bla is bliggidy blow bla bla bla" or what ever the fuck they ask you.
IMO in our unit the NCO of the quarter is whoever sucks the most dick... ...and bigfodee being in the same battalion as me maybe me wonder
just don't forget to cup the balls
i am bigfodee
The first board I won I missed EVERY SINGLE QUESTION...
its less about the questions and morea bout how you handle yourself. Your proffessionalism and military bearing.
ugh..... fuck all that shit. I couldnt care less about winning
what do you do?
which is why the award is a bunch of bullshit anyways
You mean what don't I do? Does not compute //////systemfailure//////
mother fuckers put me up again god damnit
tell them you aren't interested
boards are the militarys version of a beauty pagaent.
Bragging about "of the year" awards just makes you more
all they do is make douchebags with zero skills except the ability to look good in uniform and memorize regs NCOs before they are ready.
I've won two soldier of the month boards. one I studied for and rocked the fuck out of it, the other I showed up hung over too, answered every question wrong, wore green boot socks in my dress uniform and got called out on it, needed a haircut, and accidentally crossed my legs while I was sitting in the chair.
won the second one by reciting the NCO creed without stumbling and telling the 1st SGT that my daddy was a top who used to say that "war is a chess game, the officers play the game while its up to NCOs to remember that the chess pieces are real people". blew his little mind...
my dad never said that
you get your own parking space.
hey you're absolutely fucking right buddy
fucking E5s with less than 3 years TIS
We had a 2.5 year Sgt as a squad leader in my platoon... that lasted all of about 5 minutes once we took first contact.
buddy of mine got marine of the year for our company. He deserves it compared to most of the guys there.
