Kind of an odd point in Roman history to latch onto what with other giant huge impossible to miss well known and widely accepted examples to imperial decline that mirror the present far more accurately—but ok sure.

yes, that's one of the like, 97 different things that happened over 100+ years that led to the crumbling of the Republic and into the Empire

most historians would agree that the events orchestrated by the Gracchus brothers were the first largescale push to destabilize the republic.
