Until they get killed by JBTs.
Thanks for the PRO-tip
I'm torn between making fun of this and the knowledge that I would do it.
I'm keeping my silver coins.
I never understood why people trade in precious metals. it doesn't make sense to me.
you can't eat gold
you can't heat a home with silver
i'm keeping my toilet paper, alcohol, food, firewood, etc
having an economy based on bits of metal is fairly useless unless you have a authorative body to establish how many bits of metal are worth one chicken...
sure, they've got some applications, but the vast majority of precious metals are used in jewelry, and stuff that is of little value in a shtf situation...
Day Man > Gray Man.
He's a master of karate & friendship for everyone.
towards the beginning of any disaster I have a feeling I'd at least be able to get food for them. Unless the entire world economy crumbles, there's value in silver.

I've argued this here. In a total breakdown, precious metals are basically worthless. Money only has value because people agree that it has value, and they have faith that if they accept money in trade for goods or services that they can then trade that money elsewhere for goods or services. If I'm starving, or in need of shelter, gold or silver has no value to me. If I was struggling for my survival and I used ammunition for defense and hunting, I'd be a fool to give it to someone in trade for gold or silver. I could see precious metals being worth something at the beginning of a survival situation though, before people realize they're really worthless.
thanks captain obvious
you're welcome admiral fucktard.
since you appreciate statements of the obvious so much here's some advice that you clearly lack the mental perception to realize yourself- why don't you use that double digit IQ of yours to try to think critically, and contribute something to a conversation once in a while?
as for Laurel, and Market, thanks for your replies!
metals are of value since they can be worked or melted to make repairs, weapons, tools, etc..
Gold and silver?
i agree, but there's no way i'm going to pay "gold prices" for a golden hammer when all I need to do is pound nails in. and I don't know anyone with a golden AK that actually shoots it. in fact, I don't know anyone with a weapon made of precious metal except for in decorative parts...
what i'm saying is precious metals (gold/silver/platinum) have limited applications outside of "sitting around and looking pretty"
i much prefer the "use it to trade with people who think the/a government will come back up soon/eventually" argument
i'm thinking more copper, lead, aluminum, and gold... but i work with electronics... then also iron.
gold will always have value, as an ornimate or conductor.
Gold and silver have the value that people put on it. It has been that way for thousands of years. people will barter with it as they can then barter with it for something else.
Jewish Werewolf UN army, son.
i didn't need to as MG and laurel already reiterated what you said.
you're quite the sensitive one
You need silver bullets for when the Lycans attack.
Gold will be necessary to forge a crown for when you start ruling over your territory as a warlord.
in a shtf situation, the last thing i'll be thinking about is what'll look good on the walls of my bunker/foxhole/tent.
perhaps a coin or two for putting anti-corrosive layers on some electronics, but there's no need to stockpile (except the "trade with people who think the government will come back" argument)
