"The Marine Corps is paying $100,000 apiece for a revamped military jeep that some critics call a rip-off of taxpayers, according to a news report Thursday."
That thing looks like a total piece of shit, like something you can LITERALLY build in ur fucking backyard, and the Corps is gettin 400 of those shits????
Who the FUCK got paid to sign off on those things ? Jesus H Christ
lol, actually you CAN build one in your backyard, the company making these "American Growler" sells kits that you can buy and then build for $7500 .
"The UV100DB, which is the same vehicle you can buy from American Growler in a kit and put together yourself for about $7,500."
Civlians pay $7,500, and one foreign country paid 30K. I am not the greatest at math, but something doesn't add up here.
I remember reading it in the article, and correct me if im wrong but a turbo diesel != $92.5K so WHERE THE FUCK IS ALL THE MONEY GOIN this shit HAS GOTTA raise some serious questions for the public. I mean FUCK you can order an H1 from AM General for ..... u guessed it THE SAME FUCKING PRICE
This part of the article was interesting.....
"Under current military safety rules, the Growler would be barred from service in Iraq except as a utility vehicle that doesn't leave the security of a base."
I guess it meets the purpose it was intended for though, to be an easily adaptable vehicle that will fit into the Osprey, nothing more nothing less... except for being ridiculously overpriced. All the critics think Marines will be using these to patrol the streets of Baghdad or something.
Pic of someones custom growler....
You never know man, there is a lot of shit that ends up getting used for everything but its original intended purpose, and I think thats what a lot of ppl are/should be worried about.
Can someone explain how this:
...Is better than this:
It says.... "The Growler beat two other vehicles for the contract, Garner says."
If this thing was able to beat out two other vehicles, can you imagine how shitty the other ones must have been?
SURE no problem.... ITS NOT!!!
edit: Id rather not think of somethin that shitty even having a chance to be used by ANY branch let alone the Corps. This thing is the most craptacular clusterfuck ever!!!
One of the requirements for the RFT was it had to carry 4 people and like 3000 poundsish of gear.
I'm left wondering if an Aussie or Brit LRPV wouldn't have done the job, 6x6 might be a bit long but a 4x4 might have done. The SAS load them up with shitloads of gear then hang a .50 or mk.19 off the roof and a trail bike off the back.
Still, not their fault nobody else bid.
all i can think is subversion of funds.
I think any requisition for new vehicles should include a requirement for armor at least as good as an up-armored hummer. But it should be required to pass some extensive rollover and obstacle course tests with the armor installed before ever being approved for purchase/use.
fucking corrupt/worthless military procurement process ftl.
