A bit after the fact, but I got a nice sample of one over a week ago at Pontiac of Sioux Falls. I took a new 2005 GTO with a manual out for a long drive and I really can't believe the difference between the two engines. The LS1 feels sleepy compared to the new engine. They look basically the same under the hood, and they sound the same, but that's where the similarly ends. The LS2 really makes the car into a BEAST. It roars with just a nudge of the gas, easily gets rubber in the first four gears, and overwhelms the traction control at will inducing sideways motion. I had the sales guy holding on more than once. Now I know what Clarkson meant about the chassis being so wonderfully neutral. It's dangerous. But when you want to relax the engine (and the car) relaxes too. It's still wonderful to ride in, and quiet when you want it to be. Cruises with nary a sweat at 90mph down the highway. I can't wait to see what minor LS2 tweaking results in. It could be scary.
