So my thoughts before watching any reviewer's takes...I give it a solid average 5/10, would rate the first one a 4/10.

I had a feeling I would like Captain Shaw, he's a somewhat by-the-book asshole that likes to take a lot of naps, but I do like him so far. I honestly thought he was gonna take a nap in the middle of this episode at some point, but thankfully, he didn't.

We pretty much guessed everything that was going to happen, I'm just glad they didn't drag any of the shit out for 4-5 episodes like they did in the previous seasons. Worf was nice, but I kinda was already spoiled that the Pacifist thing is just a running joke, so as soon as Rafi (whom I still don't really like) did what she didn't want to do (which was also spoiled for me) I knew who was going to show up and save the day. Was a decent scene of violence that we all remember and adore from the old Star Trek :ugh2: .

We knew Jack was Picard's son, but the reveal was handled decent enough, and again, not dragged out for several episodes.

Was nice to see Picard finally come alive towards the end and act like Picard from TNG.

Was kinda stupid when he randomly said 'Engage' though, but whatever. Was glad to see the Ferengi looked like a Ferengi.

And at least the "current bad chick" isn't over-the-top evil, and has decent motivation, just trying to catch a bounty. Just not sure how she knows about everyone in Starfleet like she also has a vendetta against Shaw and Picard.

I think that's about it, not really many nitpicks about this episode. It's definitely a couple of lightyears ahead of Season 1 and 2 that's for sure. It's still not the Star Trek I loved and wanted to be apart of, but its at least watchable and nonsensical.

You should thank me for lowering your expectations

season isn't over yet
But its just like...why is this season getting SOOOOOOOO much praise. They have to do a complete 360' and walk it around within the next 4 episodes. I just want to see them already to see what the fucking fuss is about. Because it's been AVERAGE at best so far, and still isn't old Trek.

Watched S3:E2 last night, is there a writers strike again?

Seriously? They spend a bit of time on the already obvious its Picard's kid. After Picard goes all "who is your daddy and what does he do?" in the brig, Riker skips federation records, DNA comparisons, and transporter log instead wakes a patient AMA. Immediately after "Picard you are the father" Captain Shaw consults regulations and right after the prime directive find nepotism as a guiding pillar. And he just goes "screw it guess I can't do anything for the 500 people on this ship, here's the ship retired admiral."

At least we got to see Worf land some real blows.
