Feels like the showrunners took the criticism of being "woke" and went 180....I'm gonna get slammed for this but Picard is kind of misogynistic. Crusher ran away with their kid, gets scolded by picard for being a bitch. Riker starts off having marital problems, flashbacks to Riker and Picard at the bar having drinks, Troi calls WIll with the nagging housewife trope, Raffi is an incompetent goddamn drug addict, and Seven is disobedient. All the women are portrayed as trash. Meanwhile, Picard is the only one that Beverly can trust, Jack seems too confident/capable for his years, and Picard, Riker, and Worf are the good ol boys. Oh and the villain is a crazy insane woman.

Star Trek is developing a series that would see Michael Dorn's Worf and Michelle Hurd's Raffi team up after the events of Star Trek: Picard.

AFTER THE EVENTS OF PICARD

HE LIVES

Allegedly from a trusted source :hs:
You sound like you have not watched television in the past 10 years.
The entire point of these shows is to fuck with the audience and gotchas.
He could absolutely still die and plenty of ways to keep him there - voice, hologram, flashbacks or android body.
Nothing means anything. It's all trash.

...god I cannot wait for this show to be over so we can forget about it.

So Frakes directed this one, it moved a lot more than I thought it would. Other than some writing issues, it seemed pretty competent. I liked the re-introduction of the sci-fi element (the nebula is alive, probably) so it's going to be interesting to see what alien from Star Trek past they bring back to act as a benefactor for the Titan during this scenario.

Okay, I'm still waiting for it to get good. It was okay. :dunno:

I agree with you on all points @the_antsy_honda , only thing I'll add, is I'm increasingly not liking Rafi. I wish she would just die already.

They finally conceded upon the fact that they can't write anything new, so they're just gonna do everything "memberberry" in this season. Like @Tiny Dancer said, can't wait to see a whale, space or otherwise, by the end of the series.

She's really just unnecessary. Everything could have been done with just Worf, or Worf and Seven instead switching places with Raffi on the Titan

They need to develop/flesh out Jack quickly, for me he's too much everything. It's like they asked what traits would someone have if they spent most of their early life in a solitary setting and constantly exposed to trauma and made that the forefront of his personality. Then he's the one who figures out the ranger, not 7, and is at the center of the action. And he is Picard/Crusher's son, he's getting (probably) important visions, and can identify changelings.

Or it's like they started the script based a a bad fanfic and the author wrote it as if they were Jack, massively overpowered, under explained, and the center of attention. At this point I am missing Wesley, he was mostly just a kid and you could tell him to shut up.

I don't mind woke in ST, I mind the smash you in the face with it for no reason. It seems ST has always been a bit woke, it was just better integrated into the plot of the episode and much more of a "oh yeah that's just the way things are and should be".

I'm a fan of good storytelling and interesting characters. What you call "smash you in the face with it for no reason" I just call lazy and uninspired. In Disco, it feels like they create a character based around that alone, and then fill in the blanks and go full send on the first draft.

In the case of Picard you can tell they don't really know how to write woke since when they don't use the "paint by numbers" diversity guide they fall apart and end up being the opposite.

This goes a bit with well written woke, but I miss a Star Trek where future presented was optimistic, even with DS9's serial format and war there still that hopefulness. They dealt with the present day sucking either more subtly or by addressing it via the in show past, WWWIII or the Eugenics Wars for example. Now it feels more like they are writing this in times that people think suck so they decide they better make the future suck in a similar way.

That's just everything in general these days. Grimdark is the default.

I don't really enjoy it that much.

You can be really dark without actually being dark, and also have some good messages. The comedies Upload and The Good Place illustrate that pretty well.

I have enjoyed those. Its been a struggle to find anything well done recently that isn't, as you say, grimdark. Or avoid ones that trade too heavily/exclusively on nostalgia... I want something new, if I wanted to be nostalgic I'd do a rewatch.

Yep existing solely on the memberberries is the worst. Admittedly I do enjoy the Worf parts.
