with the borg attack A plot I totally forgot the B plot of this episode revolved around Riker's concerns about becoming a captain and being afraid that he is losing his "edge"... Picard season 3 really is digging into this for backstory more than I realized.

also the fact that Shaw completely misinterprets why the borg gave locutus a name--but it works so perfectly as an understandable interpretation from someone suffering the survivor's guilt and PTSD he does--is genuinely good carry-over from BoBW. I forgot the specific reasoning for it was actually provided by the borg in the episode. :o

So, I have to say, this is the first episode that I can say I actually really enjoyed. It felt like Star Trek.
I didn't realize it until the episode was over, but it's probably because there wasn't any Rafi/Worf bullshit. Sorry, Worf.

I remember screaming at the end when there were lights on the ship when they were riding the wave. I WAS LIKE THERE ARE FOUUUUUR LIGHTS!!!!

That part was so cool. The little speech crusher gave in the conference room, about doing what they do best, and then them all working together to find a sciencey way out of a dangerous situation ("we've been here before.....this is what we do best") and then them pulling off that stunt and seeing the birth of new life ..very star trek, even if a little recycled it was fitting because it was what brought riker back to life.

And the way that this show handled "dead naming" with commander Seven was so good. It is how star trek is supposed to handle modern social problems, by using in universe themes to convey commentary on current day issues.

All of this is Star Trek

so honestly as good as that scene on the holodeck is, i love it even more because it points to something else in Trek canon... Wolf 359 was such a desperate fight that pretty much EVERY Starfleet officer of a certain age will have been involved in it. Sisko, Shaw... these guys are representative of an entire generation of Starfleet officers that was victimized by Locutus--the fact that it echoes in Picard's life decades later is probably the best choice they've ever made thematically. :o
My ONLY problem with this...

There was a Season 2...and in Season 2 there was the friendly JaBorgi...so how did the events of Wolf 359 still take place if they basically re-did the Borg?

It was a great scene, but as usual, they forget about what they just previously wrote...even if Shaw made a dig at Season 2, it still doesn't make sense. Shaw said, "Forgot about the pretend Borg you heard about, there are REAL Borg still out here". Something to that effect.

i think the implication is that the borg have split into multiple factions, so maybe the other faction still attacked. :dunno:
