i'm starting to really like the sonoma zr5's and the s10 zr5's, i tried looking on ebay and on auto trader but they seem like they are kinda rare, anyone know about the engines they used, if they come in manual, and any type of quality control issues with them. also the type of gas mileage i can expect

any help would be appreciated

and no i wont drive a japaneese truck so dont suggest it

they had ZR5's, as well. I see a crewcab running around that looks okay. Bed is small. It's the 4.3L Vortec V6. MPG is 15/19 sticker. Most people report 14-15/18-19 actual mpg.

not really worth anything over the regular s10's, imho.

Why wouldn't you consider a Japanese truck? Older tacoma's are really solid monsters.

I used to have an older S-10 with the 4.3l V6 and a 5-speed. Great truck that would haul anything I ever asked it to. I pulled a trailer with a weeks worth of camping gear and supplies as well as a quad and a three-wheeler in the bed.

If you want to get the ZR2, go ahead. I don't think they come with the 2.2l 4-cyl, but avoid it if they do. That motor sucks. Get the 4.3 V6 with a 5 speed and enjoy it.

so what scares you most -- the reliabaility, or the better resale? :mamoru:

some of these "imports" are more domestic than the "domestics"...

Check out zr2.com for all the info you will need about zr2's since they have larger tires you will have problems with ball joints. Also be sure to look at the oil cooler lines, and check the seat back recliner handles. Those are the most common problems. Other than that they are great trucks.
As for gas milage you are looking at between 15-18 depending on how heavy your foot is, but the 4.3L High Output is a great engine, and the only one offered in the Zr2.

Also the Zr2 is the regular and extended cab and is a totally different truck than the s10. (frame, shocks, gears, skid plates, tires, flares), while the Zr5 is the crew cab only and is just an apperance package (flares, roof rack, side step, stickers).

your opinion = retarded

only buying imports = ignorance
how do you figure? My truck will go more miles than yours, visit the dealership fewer times, spend fewer hours in for repair, have a better power/weight ratio, better fit/finish/quality, AND have better resale.

Ignorance isn't buying import/domestic -- it's thinking that one or the other doesn't have it's place. :mamoru:

i only buy american

So what you are saying is that you are willing to buy a truck made in Canada or Mexico because it has an American name plate or an import truck made in the USA with American labor?

Quality, resale and everything is better on "so called imports"

Its funny how people will settle for a less quality vehicle for a name which lots of times that american car/truck is more imported than what you call imports.

The frame on the extended cab ZR2 is the same as a 4x4 ext cab frame S-10.
Lets see, the shocks are different (longer stroke) they MAY be geared differently, skids are different, tires are different, most of this is visual.
The trucks are mechanically the same. The only difference is the option package.
